As if having asthma wasn’t enough to deal with, the condition always seems to strike at the worst time:
when you’re working out, enjoying a sunny day outside surrounded by allergens, or, if you’re Halsey, in the middle of a concert.
Yep, the singer experienced what could have been a serious situation during her set at the BottleRock music festival in Napa, California on Sunday, she revealed on Twitter.
“Lmaaaaaao I just had an asthma attack onstage at @BottlerockNapa and ended up with the medics after my set!!!!” she wrote. Then, making light of the situation, she joked, “This is what I get for walking the mile in high school gym class byeeeeee 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼.”
Asthma is a condition in which your airways narrow, making it difficult to breathe. And it can be serious if it isn’t taken care of quickly.
As SELF wrote previously, asthma is a chronic condition that can result in symptoms like shortness of breath, chest tightness, wheezing, and coughing. When asthma symptoms are triggered, it can cause an “asthma attack.” Without treatment, an asthma attack can become a medical emergency.
That’s why it’s important for anyone with asthma to work with their doctor to create an asthma action plan, which may involve taking oral medications daily and adding extra medications, such as a quick-acting inhaler, if symptoms get worse. And, if symptoms don’t improve after using those secondary options, your action plan will help you figure out when it’s time to get immediate medical attention.
Luckily, it seems like Halsey got the treatment she needed quickly. And, as she said on Twitter, she still had fun. “It was suchhhh a fun set out here in Napa! Heat + Asthma and all! I hope you guys are having fun!” she wrote.
